Street Life

Willemstad may claim some 765 buildings as national monuments, but it is best enjoyed outdoors. Stroll along the winding streets, and uncover interesting scenes of everyday city life, especially in Otrobanda. Extremely pedestrian-friendly, with more walkways than many other Caribbean cities, Willemstad offers easy exploration for the truly curious.

And be sure to take advantage of the unbelievable shopping. As the trading capital of the Southern Caribbean, Willemstad attracts shoppers from all over the world. A multitude of vendors and markets display fresh produce, meats, and more, like Punda’s famous floating market along the Sha. Caprileskade, just around the corner from the Handelskade.

When it’s time to relax, stop by one of the many outdoor cafés to enjoy a meal and a fascinating round of people watching. Then dance and celebrate amid the pulsing Willemstad nightlife when the sun goes down.
